Sending my brain to San Francisco

I'm headed to San Francisco next Tuesday night. It looks like I will have one day to hang around before I start attending the conference on Thursday. Any opinions on what I might do while there?

Oooh, I've only been to SF once, but I remember loving the area.

You could do the Alcatraz thing. Or Chinatown.
Or...um...is it an Arboretum? This lovely big park thingee that's beautiful.

I agree on the Chinatown thing. Also, Golden Gate park is amazing!

I've only been there once - but I like the area down across the water (I think I remember this correctly - it's been 5 or 6 years since I was there)from Alcatraz, where the big Ghirardelli sign/place is, was a good area to wander around in.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I've been to the bay area (San Jose) a few times because my old company's corp. headtquarters was there, but I've only been in to San Francisco itself once. That time we went to Fisherman's Wharf and (maybe) Golden Gate park, so I was looking for a new idea. I'm right in downtown and I think it's a pretty easy walk to Chinatown, as well as the Ghirardelli thing. Maybe I will walk in one of those directions.

I lived in SF for a year. Fisherman's Wharf is very cool, but I have to say that cycling through the Presidio and then over the Golden Gate Bridge to the villages on the other side of the bay has to be the best things I ever did there; possibly one of the best things I've ever done in my life. Alcatraz is interesting and the shopping and the food are fantastic (but not at Alcatraz, obviously...).
